I took this grab shot in Beaumont Street, Hamilton yesterday, of a man taking a break, with his stripped down step-through roadster. Although the chainwheel is hidden from view, I saw that it had 2 rings, but no shift mech., and the rear derailleur has also been removed so it’s now a single speed freewheel with front brake. I wondered – was the chain shortened or just draped over the largest cogs to take up most of the slack ? The bike has that authentic well used appearance that money just can’t buy.
Those tough plastic milk crates are so incredibly useful, I am wondering whether some enterprising soul will ever bring out a more stylish and UV resistant version just for bikes !
